Emerging economies face unique challenges as they rapidly improve living standards through sustained economic growth and expanded access to reliable, affordable sources of energy—all while balancing those needs with the need for environmental quality that supports well-being. In 2014, the University of Chicago launched EPIC-India to help Indian policymakers tackle these challenges head-on through cross-disciplinary, innovative research and partnerships with government, industry, research institutes and other stakeholders to galvanize sweeping policy changes that promote sustainable growth.
Housed at the University of Chicago’s Center in Delhi, EPIC-India is focused on conducting cutting-edge research to test new approaches for expanding energy access and achieving low-cost reductions in pollution. Most of the research is conducted in collaboration and consultation with Ministries of the Government of India and State governments. These innovative collaborations are already successfully identifying solutions to India’s energy challenges influencing policy.
