Our Mission:
Project Chimps is the newest chimpanzee sanctuary in the United States and was founded to provide lifetime exemplary care to more than 200 former research chimpanzees. Today, Project Chimps is home to 79 chimpanzees and we are working to bring nearly 130 more to permanent sanctuary.
Our Location:
The Project Chimps sanctuary is located on 236 acres of forested land in the Blue Ridge Mountains. We are located in Morganton, Georgia, just east of the town of Blue Ridge.

The Position:
Project Chimps is seeking an Event Coordinator to plan, facilitate, and execute all public events. This position is responsible for managing public events on campus hosted by Project Chimps, as well as events held on site by third-party groups. Additionally, the Event Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of off-site, ticketed public events. The position reports to the Manager of Administration and is a full-time position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to a positive and professional organizational culture that promotes Project Chimps’ values, mission, and vision
  • Provide excellent customer service, and respond in a timely manner to phone calls, emails, mail, and other communication
  • Establish standardized event procedures and train staff/volunteers to properly execute them
  • Build and adhere to event budget
  • Facilitate the Event Committee and participate in the Curricula Writing Team
  • Assist with onsite education and awareness tours
  • Assist with offsite outreach and educational events
  • Setup and manage online ticketing and reservation platforms
  • Coordinate with vendors, exhibitors and guests during event planning, production, and follow-up
  • Oversee check-in for third-party guests, provide orientation and safety briefings, and act as their point of contact and host for the duration of their event
  • Arrange for meals and transportation as needed for special guests
  • Work with Volunteer Coordinator for volunteer needs to support events
  • Work with Facilities Department for event set up, tear down, and inventory of supplies
  • Coordinate with local wedding and event planners to rent out areas for private, third-party usage
  • Evaluate and summarize event success via participant satisfaction surveys and submit reports, as requested
  • All other duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business management, hospitality management, marketing or related areas preferred
  • Experience coordinating medium-scale events
  • Familiarity with event registration software
