Laura Grant is an Associate Professor of Economics at Claremont McKenna College. Her PhD is joint from the Department of Economics and the Bren School of Environmental Science & Management, at UC Santa Barbara. She is currently on sabbatical, back at UCSB as a visiting researcher. A main strand of Professor Grant’s research focuses on how environmental nonprofit organizations intervene in market outcomes. The nonprofits have wide-ranging aims to improve environmental conditions and protect natural resources. Her work shows that the groups improve environmental quality, increase firms’ compliance with environmental regulations, enhance governmental oversight, and provide information to consumers. In a second research strand, she assesses several impacts of the electricity market and of driving. She calculates the collateral pollution damage from these activities and provides policy recommendations to reduce the negative outcomes.
