Adwait is a Pre-Doctoral Research Professional at the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago (EPIC), working with the Climate Impact Lab. He currently supports research aiming to produce the first global causal estimates of the effects of wildfire smoke and temperature extremes on human mortality. His current research interests focus on using economic tools to understand how climate change affects vulnerable communities, particularly in the Global South.

Adwait earned an M.A. in Economics from Duke University, where he was awarded the 2024 Duke Economics Master’s Scholar Award, and a B.S. in Economics from Shiv Nadar University, India. In his free time, he enjoys swimming in Lake Michigan, hosting friends over for chai, and exploring Chicago.

“I have been curious about climate change since my undergraduate years, but I never had the opportunity to study it through research. It is incredibly exciting to now work with the Climate Impact Lab and learn alongside leading researchers in the field. I especially value being part of the process through which ideas are developed, challenged, and refined as we work through difficult research questions. Knowing that our research addresses problems that affect people around the world makes the work especially meaningful to me. EPIC has also given me an intellectually stimulating and collaborative community where I can grow as a researcher and build lasting relationships with my peers.”
