The Marion Soil and Water Conservation District has an immediate opening for an experienced Urban Conservationist to join our team. This is a full-time, exempt position with a minimum annual salary of $56,816.

The Marion Soil and Water Conservation District implements a broad range of conservation services and programs. Our mission is to protect, conserve, and improve the quality of soil and water in Marion County through planning, technical assistance, and education.

As the Urban Conservationist, you will provide technical and planning assistance with a goal of providing residents with the resources they need to protect and enhance soil and water resources in the urban/suburban setting. This position has an emphasis on providing technical information or resources to urban communities, development of conservation partnerships and initiatives, effective delivery of both District and outside grant and related technical programs, and to provide high-quality service to community partners, organizations, government agencies, and the Board. Helps the District develop strong, mutually beneficial connections with urban community groups.

You will have the opportunity to work both in the office located in Stayton and remotely, Monday-Friday 8-5pm.

Qualifications required:

  • Typically requires a bachelor’s degree and applied knowledge of soil and water conservation practices. Ecology, environmental science, forestry, natural resources, soil science, pest management, or other related degree.
  • Combination of equivalent work experience providing technical resource assistance for a natural resource agency, city, county, organization, or corporation and education is acceptable to completion of four-year degree.
  • Excellent customer service abilities and commitment are required.
  • Excellent skills in the areas of organization, attention to detail, time management, ability to manage multiple tasks, define and set priorities, meet deadlines, and problem solve are required.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and in writing, grammar, and people skills.
