The Inter-Policy School Summit is partnering with the Aspen Institute’s Energy & Environment Program for the 2019 Summit. The Summit will consider Climate Change and National Security, a topic that will come to play an increasingly important role in the policy realm for decades to come.

We can view the effects of climate change on four different levels. The primary effect is the warming of the globe due to the greenhouse effect. The secondary effects relate to long-term changes in climate arising from the greenhouse effect. The tertiary effects relate to famines, droughts, drying lakes, and agricultural changes arising from long-term changes in climate. The quaternary effects relate to food and water insecurity, displacement, and political instability arising from tertiary effects.

The 2019 Inter-Policy School Summit will bring together graduate students from across the world to propose rigorous and tangible solutions for the quaternary effects of climate change, especially as they pertain to national security. The keynote address and following panel discussion is open to the public, but registration is required.
