Kate S. Whitefoot is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Engineering and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University. She is a faculty fellow at the Scott Institute for Energy Innovation and the NextManufacturing Center. Professor Whitefoot’s research bridges engineering design, industrial organization, and energy economics. Recently, she has focused on the influence of environmental regulations on product designs and technology adoption, the effectiveness of policies in reducing transportation emissions, and the role of technology and internal practices on manufacturing productivity. Her work has been referenced in the Corporate Average Fuel Economy rulemaking and presented by invitation to the White House, Capitol Hill, the Department of Commerce, and the Environmental Protection Agency.
