Gaurav Gogoi is a young leader from the state of Assam in North-East India presently serving his second term as a Member of Parliament. In the 17th Lok Sabha (Lower House of the Indian Parliament), he serves as the Deputy Leader of the Congress Party.
He is a Member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance, the Joint Committee on Biological Diversity (Amendment) Bill, 2021, and the Committee on Government Assurances. He was also a member of the Joint Committee on the Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019. On the Party front, he has previously served as the in-charge of West Bengal, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Manipur and Sikkim from All India Congress Committee (AICC) and Member of Congress Working Committee (CWC).
Mr. Gogoi is a passionate advocate for environmental causes, which is reflected in his Convenorship of the Members of Parliament Group for Clean Air. He is also the Chair of the
Parliamentarians’ Group for Children which is aimed at advancing the wellbeing and rights of children. In addition to this, he leads the efforts to revamp Parliamentarians’ engagement with critical foreign policy issues in India.
During his previous term in the Lok Sabha, Mr. Gogoi was a member of key standing committees across domains, such as the Committee on Railways and the Standing Committee on Defense. He was also a Member of the Consultative Committee on Communications and Information Technology.
Mr. Gogoi has also served as a Policy Aide with the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations in New York and volunteered on various projects in Cambodia, Palestine and the United States. He has attended United Nations events like South Asian Parliamentarians Platform for Children meet at Colombo, Sri Lanka and attended UN Women conference for Gender Equality and Women Empowerment meet at Oslo, Norway.
He holds Masters in Public Administration from New York University and Bachelor of Technology degree from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University. His key interests lie in economics, ecology, international relations and youth development. He writes regularly for leading media publications. In 2015 he was recognized as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum.
