The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is an international nonprofit environmental organization with more than 3 million members and online supporters. Since 1970, our lawyers, scientists, and other environmental specialists have worked to protect the world’s natural resources, public health, and the environment. For two decades, NRDC has been a thought leader and trusted adviser to our partners in China. With a highly effective team of more than 30 people based in our Beijing office, NRDC China Program have worked hard at both the national and local levels to recommend, develop, and help implement innovative laws, policies, technologies, and market tools that conserve natural resources, curb pollution and accelerate China’s transition to a clean, low-carbon economy. NRDC’s Beijing Representative Office is registered under the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau and supervised by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration of China.

 

Position Summary:

 

NRDC is seeking a Program Assistant to work with the Environmental Law and Governance team in our Beijing office.  The China Environmental Law and Governance Project (ELP) works to promote environmental laws, environmental governance, climate finance, and other environmental protection issues. The Program Assistant will provide overall administrative, project management and research support for the ELP team and work collaboratively with other NRDC teams to meet overall China program goals. This Program Assistant will be hired on a 12- month based contract with possibility of renewal.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall support for project operation and administration, including scheduling meetings, drafting correspondence and communication documents, printing, filing, taking notes during meetings.
  • Arrange weekly team meetings and compile weekly team updates
  • Help draft monthly and quarterly newsletters and assist with the newsletters’ translation to English.
  • Process business expenses, reimbursements, and payments to partners, vendors, and consultants. Follow up on payments status and invoices.
  • Assist with preparation of compliance and financial paperwork
  • Maintain an organized system for project documents and materials, including project reports, contracts, invoices, photos, videos and other project materials.
  • Conduct logistic support for conferences, meetings, team events and business trips.
  • Arrange orientation for consultants, fellows, interns, and visitors.
  • Provide support to project research, literature review, translation, printing and publishing.
  • Provide administrative support to offices daily operation, including reception coverage, scheduling, filing, business expenses, travel arrangements, work permit and visa issues as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree in environment, law, finance, social science, public policy, economics or other relevant fields is desired.
  • Working proficiency in spoken and written English and Chinese. Excellent Chinese and English written and verbal communications skills.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and other multimedia tools.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well on a team.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks, follow organizational procedures and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Interest, experience and knowledge in environmental and climate issues is desired.
  • Experience of above 1-2 two years working in related field is preferred.
