About CELI

With cohorts operating in Washington, D.C., California’s Bay Area, Chicago, New York, and nationally, the Clean Energy Leadership Institute (CELI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to developing a new kind of energy leadership. CELI’s mission is to create a multiracial, diverse, and inclusive community of change-makers working across sectors and disciplines to drive an equitable, decarbonized, and resilient energy ecosystem. Through CELI’s programs, including the Fellowship, the Edict Internship Program, Alumni and Membership Program, CELI brings together the many players in the clean energy ecosystem to take collective action towards our values.

CELI equips emerging leaders with the skills and expertise to lead the transition to a clean energy economy. Over the last seven years, CELI has trained over 750 professionals from 450+ organizations through its signature Fellowship program and an additional 6,000+ students and professionals through its clean energy education and community programming.

Fellowship Associates – Energy Leadership

CELI is seeking three highly motivated Fellowship Associates to support CELI’s flagship Fellowship to train emerging leaders in clean energy. In 2022, the Fellowship program will offer six cohort-based Fellowships across the United States, accepting 35-40 individuals per cohort. Each Associate will be responsible for supporting the teaching and learning of two sister cohorts (in a similar time zone) and will work closely with CELI’s Leadership Team to do so.

This position will report to the Director of Energy Leadership, and will work closely with the Director of Energy Justice Partnerships and a dedicated volunteer Leadership Team. This position would be a great fit for a graduate student working towards a degree in energy, sustainability, environmental justice, or a related field. CELI allows for flexible work hours and is committed to supporting a good work-life balance. Please note that some weekday nights and at least four Saturdays are required during the Fellowship Program’s implementation period.

Qualifications and Responsibilities

The CELI 2022 Fellowship will be delivered from March 1 – June 29, 2021, and will be mostly virtual with up to four in-person Saturdays.  January and February would be time for CELI to train and on-board Fellowship Associates, and July is reserved for Associates to complete any final reporting, as required.

During March 1 – June 29, Fellowship cohort participants meet once a week virtually for two hours in the evenings to receive topical trainings from experts in the field and engage in exercises with their peers. The energy literacy curriculum modules cover Electricity Markets, Clean Energy Finance, Technologies, Policy, and Deep Decarbonization. In 2022, CELI will offer four in-person Saturday sessions covering energy justice, leadership development, and skills-building sessions.

Fellowship Associates will have a passion for driving learning about the clean energy ecosystem, climate change adaptation, mitigation and resilience, and energy justice issues. Fellowship Associates should have some experience facilitating teaching and learning, and they should bring exceptional interpersonal skills to their work with volunteers and Fellows from diverse backgrounds. Fellowship Associates will thrive in fast-paced environments and should be strong managers of many moving parts. Fellowship Associates will be oriented towards providing the highest quality of support to CELI’s volunteer Leadership Team in execution of the fellowship program and to the Fellows. Fellowship Associates must be detail-oriented, able to manage an email inbox well, and show up as reliable team players to be successful in this position.

  • Assist with the execution of CELI’s flagship Fellowship program in 2022 and take care of related logistical and administrative tasks
  • Reliably attend and support weekly Fellowship sessions (once a week, held virtually in the evenings), and attend and support once a month, in-person, on Saturdays
  • Work closely with the Leadership Team, the Module Leads, Curriculum Advisers, and other CELI volunteers to deliver the best CELI experience possible
  • Successfully manage informational flows, track of multiple work items, such as agendas, speaker confirmations, informational emails, calendar invites, zoom meetings, attendance, and other details
  • Prepare and liaise with weekly guest speakers
  • Ensure that the check-in calls with the invited speakers take place, making sure that the speakers are informed about their session topics and logistics
  • Organize and disseminate weekly agendas and exercise materials
  • Monitor weekly session flow and ensure that the parties adhere to the meeting agenda
  • Be prepared to facilitate weekly sessions in case the leadership team is not available
  • Support Fellows during the weekly sessions, and, generally, work to create a strong cohort experience.
