Position Summary

 

NRDC is seeking a Digital Campaign Manager to work with the Digital Advocacy & Fundraising team in the Communications department in our New York City office. The position reports to the Director of Digital Advocacy and Engagement. This is a temporary contract position that will run through September of 2022.

 

The Digital Campaign Manager should be a creative and experienced digital campaigner looking to be part of a dynamic team to implement compelling advocacy, engagement, and fundraising campaigns. This position will be responsible for developing, executing, and managing multi-channel digital advocacy and fundraising campaigns focusing on national environmental advocacy issues addressing climate change, environmental justice, protecting wildlife and wildlands, drinking water, and much more. Key campaign tactics will include email, petitions, social media, SMS, digital ads, click-to-call, peer-to-peer texting, website content marketing, and other tactics.

 

Ideal candidates will have professional experience working with progressive advocacy organizations, nonprofit membership organizations, electoral campaigns, and/or consulting firms to utilize digital tools to mobilize people to take action and donate online. Experience with monthly sustainer giving is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, execute, and manage multi-channel digital advocacy and fundraising campaigns that help NRDC achieve its advocacy, fundraising, engagement, and new audience acquisition goals
  • Write and edit email action alerts and fundraising appeals, SMS messages, campaign plans and associated campaign copy, and assist in the drafting or editing of social media content, online video scripts, copy for graphics, digital ads, and other content as needed
  • Coordinate planning and development of campaigns with other key Digital Advocacy and Fundraising staff, other teams inside and outside of Communications Department, and outside consultants
  • Assist in strategies to grow NRDC’s critical monthly giving donor base – acquiring new sustainers and cultivating and retaining existing monthly donors
  • Work with the Advertising and Acquisitions team and advertising consultants on paid and earned email and mobile number acquisition strategies that grow the NRDC lists and activist and donor base, including online advertising on social media and websites, search marketing, list chaperoning, list appends, or other tactics as needed
  • Work with the social media team and others to ensure successful promotion and engagement of our campaigns on social media
  • Help ensure strategic use of mobile advocacy tools to bolster our mobile fundraising strategy
  • Develop and incorporate testing strategies into campaigns
  • Assist in developing and producing reports summarizing the results of campaigns and use data and analytics to make strategic and tactical campaign decisions

Qualifications

  • A minimum of two years professional experience in digital advocacy and/or fundraising, ideally with experience working on progressive national advocacy causes and/or other nonprofits with robust digital advocacy and fundraising programs
  • Knowledge of digital advocacy and fundraising best practices
  • Strong writing and editing skills, experience writing short and punchy direct-response advocacy and fundraising emails, the ability to adapt writing style to a pre-existing “voice,” demonstrated ability to produce copy that is clear, compelling, and motivating, and ability to turn around copy on a same-day basis for rapid response
  • Experience producing and analyzing response rate reports in Excel
  • Working knowledge of eCRMs (ActionKit, Springboard, EveryAction, Luminate Online, Marketing Cloud, etc.) and their technical capabilities as they relate to digital strategy and campaign planning is a plus
  • A deep concern for the natural world, a belief in the power of grassroots action to make a difference, and a commitment to using a large membership and online citizen network to help protect the environment
